Welcome to the Batesburg Leesville Panther Soccer web site.
4/30/02: First Round Class AA Playoffs: (8) B-L vs. (9) Mid-Carolina at Panther Stadium
Allen Fountain scored 3 first half goals along with Robbie Baston's one that gave B-L a 4-2 halftime lead. Allen scored 2 more second half goal and Freshman Shay Barnes in his first Varsity game scored 2 goals. Allen's performance was maybe the best playoff performance in B-L history. finishing nearly all of his chances. Tonights lineup looked more like a lineup that could threaten AA powerhouse Chapin. With new goalkeeper Will Hall, Sweeper Michael Whittle, and Left Forward Shay Barnes, the Panthers looked and played like a new team. Next for B-L will be Thursday at Chapin in the second round of the upperstate playoffs.
4/29/02: 2002 Class AA Playoff Bracket is revised, giving us the 8 seed and Mid-Carolina the 9 seed and we wil be at home Tuesday night.
4/28/02: 2002 Class AA Playoff Bracket Released, Click here to follow link to Playoff Schedule
I am going to comment on the way the brackets are seeded, just look for yourself and see what I am complaining about. Two teams are seeded ahead of AA powerhouse Emerald. A Chapman team with a losing record is seeded 6. Mid-Carolina gets a higher seed than us as well. Oh well, at least we know we earn everything we get, because Batesburg-Leesville is definately not in the soccer political circle. Emerald should also be outraged.
4/25/02: BL JV and Varsity vs. Edisto in Cordova
JV: Shay Barnes scored two and Cory Durst one in the 3-1 win over the rival Edisto Cougars. The win makes the JV 6-7, the best finish in the JV history. Great season from the JV and we are looking for better things next year.
Varsity: The Panther Varsity lost a tough match with the Cougars, 7-4. We probably said goodbye to the last Kurtis Evans vs. Allen Fountain showdown in great style. Both senior scoring leaders had great games leading their teams in scoring. The loss makes the Panthers finish the year at 9-8 and third in the region. As soon as a playoff opponent in named, I will post the brackets on the site.
4/24/02: BL vs. Saluda at Saluda and B-L JV vs. B-C JV at Pather Stadium
JV: The Panther's faced a new look B-C B-team, looking more like B-C's JV team. Cory Durst scored 17 seconds into the match and Shay Barnes scored 46 seconds into the match. The JV went flat after the two early scores and end up losing 5-2 to B-C's JV squad.
Varsity: The Panther Varsity wins 6-0. Still looking for a scoring summary. This win brings the Panthers to 5-5 in the region, which is where they will finish.
4/23/02: BL vs. Columbia at Columbia High Park
The Panther Varsity wins 4-1. Still looking for a scoring summary. Will Caughman was injured in the game and will be out for the next two games. The varsity will make up a region game against Saluda tonight (wed. 4/24) 6:00 in Saluda.
